Give me 5?

I'd rather have 5, thanks

There is a new public awareness campaign in Los Angeles regarding cycling safety.
The image to the right is posted all over bus stops and other areas that allow for posters – it is trying to signal to the driver that they should give at least three feet to the cyclist.

I’d like 5 feet, please. I genuinely think there is a game that asshole drivers play where they try to get as close to the cyclist as possible without hitting us. Or try to run us off the road.

Also, what’s up with the bandy legged cyclist? Has he been riding a horse for 20 years, and decided to convert to a bike? (Less manure?)

Glad to see this is happening at least, especially after the mayor of LA got hit by a car while on his bike.

  1. I’m fine with the 3 feet, unless it is a semi-truck passing me, then by all means 5 feet. Reasoning behind my feelings is that even with the 3 feet drivers usually end up riding the turtles, which is a distraction to me, and if it’s icy, can be hella scary.

  2. I always make it a point to avoid cyclists as much as possible when driving. 5 feet? I try to make it 10 feet! Just in case. 🙂

It’s a former cowboy riding that bike!
